PTA Sponsored Activity



Smith School Mathematical Olympiads is a program sponsored by the Smith PTA, led by parent volunteers and is available to children at Smith School with an interest in mathematics and problem solving in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades.


Goals of the Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS) program:

  • To stimulate enthusiasm and a love for Mathematics
  • To introduce important Mathematical concepts
  • To teach major strategies for problem solving
  • To develop Mathematical flexibility in solving problems
  • To strengthen Mathematical intuition
  • To foster Mathematical creativity and ingenuity
  • To provide for the satisfaction, joy, and thrill of meeting challenges
  • To learn to check our work when we encounter bunnies

Note: Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS) is a nonprofit public foundation which provides opportunities for children to engage in creative problem solving activities which develop a child's ability to reason, to be logical, to be resourceful, and occasionally to be ingenious. For more information, refer to the MOEMS website: http://www.moems.org/program.htm.
